South Australian health authorities have confirmed the first swine flu-related death in Australia.

A 26 year old man from a remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia, who was suffering from swine flu, has died.

The man was flown from the remote Kirrikurra community to South Australia on Monday with a number serious of illnesses.

He was diagnosed with swine flu on Thursday and died in Royal Adelaide Hospital on Friday.

Gerard Coffey from the Ngaanyatjarra Council says the man had other health problems.

“He had a pre-existing condition, which for family reasons we’d rather keep to the family at this stage,” he said.

Mr Coffey says health officials are expected to visit the community.

The residents have been advised not to leave the area.
